Finally, some REAL blackened thrash! The term blackened thrash in my opinion is highly overused, where a band is usually way more thrash or way more black metal; in most cases, the band is simply thrash metal with a rasp or two. NOCTURNAL FEAR definitely falls under the blackened thrash category. Underground icons NOCTURNAL FEAR are back to declare war with their latest masterpiece, Metal Of Honor, which is an album full of blackened thrash greatness! Despite all the line-up changes, enter in Doomy G. Blackthrash and his hellish rasps, and NOCTURAL FEAR sure seems to be back at full speed.
“Death Before Dishonor” is a beast of a song, and prepare yourself for a ton of fast action. I mean, this is the raw to the bone kind of thrash that I love to hear, and NOCTURNAL FEAR’s experienced shredding stands out brightly, earning them the metal of honor. And oh my does the main riff really get the adrenaline pumping, the blood flowing, and the chaos erupting. Jump into the pit for this one!
Shredding along, the ludicrous speed and metallic assaults in “Triumph Of Steel” spill blood all over the battlefield! From the shredding solos to the dark and glorious rhythm section, it’s incredible how NOCTURNAL FEAR can make their thrash sound so fvcking evil!
Seeing that these guys are from Michigan (so am I!), I’m now starting to think… Damn Alex, why haven’t you heard of/caught these guys in concert yet? I hope to take a road trip down to see these guys soon or better yet, I hope they land a killer thrash tour, for they definitely have the chops and credibility to. But back to Metal Of Honor, because NOCTURNAL FEAR has crafted one of the best thrash albums of the year.
